Social media is a powerful way to drive traffic to your sites and videos. I’ve been using the Twitter/YouTube combination quite successfully on a couple of my channels and as you can see in the results above I’ve managed to gain over 3,000 followers in a short space of time. Many of these followers have gone on to become loyal YouTube subscribers as well!
So how did I do it? The basic strategy is to build followers to your Twitter account and then direct them to your YouTube channel to build your subscriptions. You could of course send them to your website or other page depending on your niche.
Sending Twitter followers to your YouTube channel does have an advantage over any other link and I’ll explain why in a second.
First, we’ll have a look at how to gain thousands of Twitter followers in just minutes per day. I use a site called Unfollowers.com. This site lets you follow users from select Twitter accounts. Simply follow users in your niche and a certain percentage of them will follow you back.
There are a few rules when it comes to following Twitter users and you must stick to them in order to keep your account in good standing. You don’t need to worry too much about it when your account is small, under 2,000 followers, but once you get bigger you’ll need to make sure you’re not following more people then you have followers. It’s said that there is a margin of 10%. So if you have 10,000 followers you can follow up to 11,000 people. I find it’s best to stay well below this and always like to have more followers than people I am following when my account is above the 2,000 follower threshold.
So this will get you Twitter followers but how do I convert them into YouTube subscribers?
One of the features of Unfollowers.com is that it allows you to send a DM (Direct Message) to everyone who starts following you on Twitter. Generally speaking you can’t add links to these messages as they often get filtered out by Twitter but you can add a link to YouTube. This is why it makes sense to send your Twitter followers to your YouTube account, at least in the initial DM.
To find out how to send a DM to everyone who follows you on Twitter click on the ‘Automate’ tab in your Unfollowers.com dashboard.
Make sure you’re polite and thank them for following you before letting them know about your YouTube channel.
IMPORTANT: Don’t go too crazy with your follows and unfollows. It’s best to build up slowly and make sure you leave at least 3 days before unfollowing someone you have just followed. Unfollowers.com adds a tag to everyone you follow so you’ll know how long it’s been since you started following them.
That’s really all there is too it. Just rinse and repeat. Be consistent and try to interact and respond to people on Twitter to improve your engagement levels with your fan base.
